Fat, pregnant or both?

Children are getting obese from their mother during pregnancy, about five in ten pregnant women are. This fact is worrisome but at this moment I never really consider obesity as a “serious disease.”It’s not like one day you wake up and you find that you’re obese. It’s a lifestyle habit and something that totally can preventable and reversible. That mean pregnant women need more advice in this area. Of course, this world growing really fast because of new technologies that are taken advantage of. Pregnant woman was lacking advice how many calories and how long should exercises in a day. However, once a woman is pregnant, she should not encourage to diet to lose weight as harm her health or the baby. So she should follow a balance meal with a balance physically active. Being obese is a huge concern because it can be linked with many other diseases. Also the money we spend on healthcare will be high; most of it will be chronic care instead of acute care. Pregnant women are expect to eat balance and even those who want to stay healthy can’t because lack of guidance. It needs to be more promote or advice, the society is encouraging and/or forcing people to make wrong lifestyle choices. As it continues, the society will in a downhill spiral and we can't get out.

  1. A point to make (just to add to your collection) is that a lot of newborn babies nowadays are "accidents". It may not be that the information is not there, but they are already technically obese by the time they have conceived the child. Also, as obesity in the western world is steadily increasing, it makes sense that the rate of obese babies is also increasing.

  2. Not only looking at obesity in regards to pregnancy but as a disease itself, it is linked with fatal illnesses such as diabetes. More commonly found in middle and high income areas in the world, diabetes in a leading death among developed countries and can be prevented by healthier lifestyle choices such as exercising and healthy diets. Educating and advising those in “high risk” areas is a preventative way to ensure the number of deaths of diabetes caused by obesity is reduced. Reaching mothers on ways to have healthy lifestyles can stop the cycle of obesity and unhealthiness within their children.

  3. It can definitely be a surprising fact to mothers that their children can become obese before they are even born. Combating obesity, however, can be a very difficult task. Although it is simple to say that the solutions to solving obesity is to eat a balanced meal and being physically active, getting pregnant women to do so is much more difficult. To eat a balanced meal and to be physically active, families must have to spend their extra income to pay for those healthier meals and take time off of their jobs to fit in a regular exercise routine. It may be difficult for them to see into the future because of the current sacrifices they would have to make to have a healthy baby, so issues with obesity also can turn into an economic issue.
